Socially Responsible Investment

- A. Introduction
Recent years have witnessed a significant growth in socially responsible investment (SRI) among banks, insurers, and etc. Many charities, foundations and other non-profit organisations are in fact among leading institutional investors and cannot be ignored for their significant financial assets. Their interest in social investment has also increased, and some of them have adopted social investment practices.Charities and foundations may take conventional SRI approaches, to take account of social, environmental, corporate governance factors in their investment, such as positive/negative screening using social/environmental criteria to select appropriate investment, or shareholder advocacy to encourage more responsible business practices through proxy voting and dialogue.Apart from the SRI forms, primarily driven by their charitable purpose, more unique investment practices have also emerged in their own context, i.e. programme related investment (PRI), for example, community development finance.
