Evaluation reports directory (ELDIS) Perhaps the best directory of evaluation reports currently available. It provides links to reports as well as to organisations' evaluation units. ELDIS is "the gateway to development and environment information" and is funded by DANIDA and SIDA (Electronic Development and Environment Information System).

Principles for evaluation of development assistance This 1991 text from the OECD's Development Assistance Committee remains a useful classic on what an evaluation is, and why and how it is done. It defines evaluation as follows:"Evaluation is an assessment, as systematic and objective as possible, of an on-going or completed project, programme or policy, its design,implementation and results. The aim is to determine the relevance and fulfilment of objectives, developmental efficiency, effectiveness, impact and sustainability. An evaluation should provide information that is credible and useful, enabling the incorporation of lessons learned into the decision-making process of both recipients and donors."
